Melania Trump: The ‘powerful message’ behind FLOTUS’ White House Xmas decorations | World | News 46

The First Lady, and wife of US President Donald Trump, posted a video on social media which gave an insight into the elaborate decorations adorning the White House’s interior.  She tweeted the video with the caption: “‘The Spirit of America’ is shining in the White House. “I am delighted to share this beautiful exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the Christmas season!”

A mixture of fans and critics tried to analyse the meaning behind the First Lady’s choice of festive arrangements.

At a first glimpse of Melania’s decorations, the main colour scheme is white.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, colour consultant and stylist Jules Standish shared her thoughts of the various meanings behind the First Lady’s choice of decoration palettes.

Ms Standish said: “Melania and her choice of all white, wearing it as well as decorations, represents balance and optimism, a liking for order and clarity of thought.

“Being naturally open minded and receptive she has a clear and direct approach to life and likes to be respected for her opinions.

“She is open to new challenges and ideas but likes to make her own decisions and not be swayed by others.”

The colour expert highlighted how the use of white allows for the “prominence of the American flag”.

Ms Standish added: “Its colours of red and blue stand out in its patriotism along with the balance of green in the trees.

“Green is all about balance, nature, the environment, it’s the colour of harmony.”

The colour expert and stylist also added that green represented renewal and new beginnings.

Ms Standish added how Melania’s use of the American flag’s colours could have been used as a “powerful message”.

She said: “Red is all about passion, drive and getting the job done.

“Blue is trust, reliability, calm and peace, relaxing the nervous system and also the colour of communication.”

She added: “So both colours combined have a dual and powerful message.

“White is about clarity, it absorbs and reflects all colours so allows for the ‘flag’ to really take centre stage.

“This to me signifies putting the country first, as opposed to last year’s dominant red.”

Melania received waves of criticism last Christmas after decorating the White House with all-red Christmas trees.

The display prompted critics to mock the First Lady’s “American Treasures” themed festive ornaments.

Her displays were compared to everything from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ to ‘The Shining’.

Ms Standish added: “Red is all about passion, drive and confidence.

“In abundance, it can be seen as overly aggressive and in experiments raises blood pressure!”

The only major red element this season is the carpeted floor in the East Colonnade where giant three dimensional stars can be seen hanging from the ceiling.

As is tradition, volunteers from all over the US descended on the White House to help Melania deck the halls.

The mammoth task included hanging 800 feet of garlands, tying 15,000 bows and stringing more than 2,500 strands of lights.
