Holidays 2019: Expert reveals secret trick to secure cheap travel | Travel News | Travel 45

Holiday discounts are coveted by virtually all travellers, yet not many succeed in bagging a bargain. With the amount of flight routes, holiday destinations and hotels available, it is hard for Britons to root out the cut-price travel gems. Yet experts from Scottish Trust Deed have revealed an often-forgotten tip which could potentially knock hundreds of pounds off the cost of a holiday. CEO David Baddeley exclusively told while debt queries often flooded in at Christmas, the firm was beginning to see significant increases in the lead up to summer holiday season.

He told “We often see people enter into holiday debt when they are unaware of the ‘tricks of the trade’.

Our biggest tip is to use the following tactic – shop for a holiday as usual and select the one that you would like to purchase.

“Then complete the stages as usual. Dates, flight selection etc and enter your email address.

“When it is time to offer you payment details close all windows and do not revisit the site.”

Then, the clever part of the pretend purchase hack comes to light.

David said: “Many sites will then send you a voucher code in the next 24 hours to redeem against your holiday.

“This can discount your holiday by a significant amount, especially if the offer is to redeem a percentage.

“A holiday is likely to be your biggest purchase of the year, so ensure that you shop around.

“You wouldn’t decide which brand of are you want and then buy the first one you see.

“The same logic applies to holidays. Decide on a destination and then shop around for the greatest deal.”

David also urged Britons not to be swayed by the detail of other people’s social media feeds.

He suggested holidaymakers should stick to their own budget and preferred locations instead of comparing their prospective breaks to those of others.

Meanwhile, in a separate money saving holiday tip, experts have revealed Brexit fears have drastically cheapened the cost of European beach holiday breaks.

Holiday comparison company TravelSupermarket, which has looked at more than 1 million package holiday price enquiries for this summer compared with last summer, has noted a huge drop in price.

After putting seven night departures between 1 May to 30 September under the spotlight, they have deemed they are currently a third less expensive, coming in at 38 per cent cheaper.

Emma Coulthurst, travel commentator for the holiday price comparison site, said: “It is a fact that Brexit is causing summer package holiday prices to Europe to drop.

“Some British holidaymakers say that they don’t want to book until they know the outcome of Brexit, while others say they want to avoid Europe altogether”.

Brexit has previously seen the pound to euro exchange rate plummet, as well as fears over the validity of passports.
