The US President appeared to be unsteady as he approached the stairs of the Taj Mahal after signing the visitors’ book. Donald Trump could be seen grabbing Melania’s hand to go down the stairs, only to let go of her again once they reached the bottom. The US leader is visiting India with his wife this week, where he received a joyful and colourful welcome.
More than 100,000 people packed into the world’s largest cricket stadium, giving Mr Trump the biggest rally crowd of his political career.
Earlier, Mr Trump visited a former home of independence leader Mohandas Gandhi, and he is currently touring the famed Taj Mahal.
Nearly everyone in the newly constructed stadium in Ahmedabad in western India sported a white cap with the name of the event, “Namaste, Trump” or “Welcome, Trump,” and roared for the introductions of both Mr Trump and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
But miles away in the capital of New Delhi, Indian police used tear gas and smoke grenades to disperse a crowd of clashing protesters hours before Mr Trump was due to arrive, as violence broke out over a new citizenship law that excludes Muslims.

Mr Trump basked in the raucous reception that has eluded him on many foreign trips, some of which have featured massive protests. In India, he instead received a warm embrace – literally – from the ideologically aligned Mr Modi.
The sun-baked city of Ahmedabad bustled as Mr Trump arrived, as the streets teemed with people eager to catch a glimpse of the American president.
The First Lady looked stylish wearing a head-to-toe white outfit with a green silk scarf.
She opted for a classic look wearing an elegant white jumpsuit. Donald’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, also arrived and wore a colourful red and blue summer dress.
Melania looked chic as they stepped off the plane at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
The First Lady gave her look a pop of colour with a green scarf tied around her waist.
Melania and Donald were given a royal welcome at the airport that included live music and a red carpet.
They were also greeted by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they touched down.
