Steph McGovern: BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker appears to confirm co-star’s exit | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Steph McGovern, 37, is currently expecting her first child and is on maternity leave from BBC Breakfast. The business correspondent’s colleague Dan Walker has since hinted she will be leaving the morning show after it was confirmed she will be presenting a new Channel 4 programme. In view of his 582,000 followers, he tweeted: “She will be a big loss but she’ll also be fantastic at her new gig and we wish her all the best. “Well done @stephbreakfast (I imagine you’ll have to change that now). Consistently brilliant.”

His comments come after Dan retweeted a post about Steph fronting her own television show next year.

The post read: “@stephbreakfast to present a new daily live show on Channel 4. Starting in Spring 2020, The Steph Show will be broadcast live from Leeds, the home of Channel 4’s new national HQ. Big loss to @BBCBreakfast.”

Fans flocked to comment on the BBC Breakfast presenter’s tweet, with many saying she will be missed.

One person said: “This is really sad news, but a brilliant opportunity at the same time. I was so lucky to meet her at Tony’s Flypast, and I wish her all the best.”

Another person commented: “Love a bit of @stephbreakfast gutted she’s leaving @BBCNews looking forward to seeing the new show.”

While a third person added: “Sad for the Beeb, but what a brilliant move for @stephbreakfast and C4!”

The pregnant star has not yet confirmed that she will be leaving BBC Breakfast.

Steph will host her own programme, The Steph Show, every weekday from 6am until 9.15 am on the rival network.

Steph said: “I’m really chuffed to be creating my own live show with Channel 4 in Leeds.

“It’s going to be nerve-wracking, but there’s nothing I love more than finding out what makes people tick, whether it’s a famous face or someone we haven’t met yet who has a cracking story to tell.

“This is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to get started next year.

“Just a small matter of having a baby first!”

Head of Daytime for Channel 4, Jo Street said: “Steph is a brilliant broadcaster with great intelligence, warmth and wit… and a good measure of cheek and mischief as well.

“She embodies all the qualities I want Channel 4 Daytime to be – and I know Steph is going to do a fantastic job as we start a daily conversation with our audience.

“Broadcasting this new show live from Leeds is an important moment for Channel 4 as we further cement our commitment to out-of-London commissioning and showcase the home of our new national HQ.”

She is currently on maternity leave from her role on BBC after announcing the news of her pregnancy earlier this year.

The mum-to-be is also a regular face on the consumer programme Watchdog on the same channel.
