Melania Trump was once on the Vogue cover, in 2005.
This was shortly after the Slovenian-born model had married the billionaire, long before there was any hint she might become First Lady.
However, it seems there is a slim chance that the First Lady will grace the Vogue cover again.
Vogue US editor Anna Wintour seemed to implied, when asked about the magazine’s non-partisan approach, that Melania would not be on the cover of the magazine again any time in the near future.
She said: “I also feel even more strongly now that this is not a time to try — and I think one has to be fair, one has to look at all sides — but I don’t think it’s a moment not to take a stand.”
However, the magazine had Michelle Obama on the cover three times when her husband was president.
Melania Trump’s spokeswoman has fired back with a strong statement, blasting the Vogue editor.
Stephanie Grisham said: “The cover of Vogue doesn’t define Mrs. Trump, she’s been there, done that long before she was First Lady.
“Her role as First Lady of the United States and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover.
“This just further demonstrates how biased the fashion magazine industry is, and shows how insecure and small-minded Anna Wintour really is.”
During an interview with CNN last week, Wintour hinted that the magazine is not politically impartial, as she revealed: “I believe and I think that those of us that work at Conde Nast believe that you have to stand up for what you believe in and you have to take a point of view.”
US Vogue may not be overtly political, but its sister magazine Teen Vogue is.
The publication, which targets and younger audience, caused shock when it published an article called ‘Donald Trump Is Gaslighting America’, written by Lauren Duca.
Many have praised the magazine for publishing, political content to its majority female, teenage audience.
