Emmerdale actress Fiona Wade’s best and worst holiday memories | Travel News | Travel

The London-born star, who’s been on the ITV soap since 2011, divides her time between the capital and the show’s set in Yorkshire.

She took part in talent show Dance Dance Dance earlier this year.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?

When I went on a pilgrimage to Haifa in northern Israel about eight years ago and I travelled on my own for the first time.

I went to see the Bahá’í shrines including one with a gold-dome set in the centre of the beautiful gardens.

I met people from across the world and came away having grown spiritually. It was quite a brave thing to do on my own, a lot of people do it with partners or families, so I was really proud of myself.

AND YOUR WORST?

I honestly haven’t had a bad holiday. I’ve had trips that might not have gone too well, but we don’t get much holiday on Emmerdale so when we do go away, I always make the most of it.

As long as I’m away and in the sun, I’m happy.

BEST SOUVENIR?

I don’t really buy souvenirs but I love Indian jewellery, so whenever I go to Dubai I head to the Gold Souk.

It’s a bit of a journey to get there but it’s worth it to see all the lovely jewellery and find things you wouldn’t necessarily find over here.

The souks are a real experience, although I’m terrible at bartering.

BEST BOOK?

I’ve just finished reading The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.

It’s a fantastic book by Robin Sharma. It’s really positive and inspiring and full of great parables about life. It’s a beautiful read. I’d recommend it to anyone.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?

When I do get time off, I just want to switch off. I love travelling and going to different countries and seeing the culture, but when it’s just a quick break from shooting, I love to go where it’s really hot. I enjoy sitting by the pool and relaxing.

I’m at my happiest in the sun.

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO REVISIT?

The desert in the Middle East is one of my favourite places in the world. It’s a very powerful place.A few years ago I was doing a job in the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan.

It’s one of the most beautiful places you could ever visit – it’s so vast. We were filming there for a week and we woke up every morning in the desert after sleeping under the stars.

It was amazing.

WHERE ARE YOU OFF TO NEXT?

I’m going to Dubai for a week with my mum and a friend. We go every year and it’s something that we look forward to. I need a break and it will be nice to get some sun and relax.

We sunbathe and go to the shops and I’ve also got some friends who live out there.

● Fiona is in Emmerdale, on ITV weeknights, at 7pm.
