eBay: 50p coin sold for £650 – do you have one of these Battle of Hastings 50p coins? | Life | Life & Style

eBay is one place collectors like to go online to find rare coins, including this rare 50p coin.

This Battle of Hasting 50p is thought to be rare, although the mintage has not yet been published.

Commemorating the Battle of Hastings, the coin honours a historic battle in British history in 1066.

One bid of £650.00 was made on the coin on Christmas Day last year.

Seller 2015ukjanna listed the coin as: “The reverse of this coin was designed by John Bergdahl and is inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry.

“It was created to remember the day when King Harold II was defeated by William the Conqueror, leading to the collapse of the English army.

“Value of this coin has skyrocketed.”

The 50p was minted in 2016, to celebrate 950 years since the battle.

The coin has been rated a 16 out of 100 for scarcity by Change Checker, making it the 25th rarest coin in the UK.

It is rarer than numerous Olympic 50ps, including weightlifting, fencing, cycling, Team CB and volleyball.

The Battle of Hastings marked the beginning of the Norman invasion and conquest of Britain.

It is famously immortalised in the Bayeux Tapestry.

Another rare coin has gone on sale recently, fetching large sums online.

The £1 trial coins have been popular with collectors.

The coin is just one colour, unlike the later new £1 designs, which feature a silver centre.

This is not the first trial coin to sell for a large sum of money on the auction site. Another new 12-sided trial coin has sold for £500 on the site.
