Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host delivers shock verdict on Strictly Come Dancing 2019 | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The presenter is well known for sharing his views on an array of topics with his loyal army of Twitter followers. And following Saturday’s edition of the reality show, he voiced his views on who had the best start to the programme. He initially tweeted: “Looking forward to seeing @mikebreakfast & @AlexScott hit the #Strictly floor tonight.

“I’m sure @Mrs_katjones & @mr_NJones have been working them hard. Hope they both stay in @bbcstrictly for ages.”

But after witnessing his BBC Sport colleague Alex in action he was stunned.

The presenter added on Twitter: “Wow!

“Alex has got some serious Strictly game.

“What a start.”

Twitter users also waded in.

One wrote: “Fantastic performance but could of been sharper during the kicks which was my only criticism but definitely deserved more than a 21.”

Another said: “First one out each series always seems to be marked low.

“Dan Walker’s turn next year?”

A third added: “She deserved higher points, week one and she danced really good.”

It comes as Strictly was hit with a ratings decline from last year’s series.

The show was watched by 7.7million with a peak audience of 8.5million tuning in to catch a glimpse of the Strictly stars.

However the number of viewers was less than those who tuned in last year.

Strictly may have lost the competition with itself but it did beat its ITV rival, Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

BGT’s viewing figures were 3.7 million, which is less than half that of Strictly Come Dancing’s.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
